Melchizedek and Most High God
The argument against Christian tithing is based on several
facts: (1) holy tithing was always only food from inside Israel. (2) According
to Numbers 18:10-28 and Nehemiah 10:37-38 holy tithes only supported non-priestly
Levite servants and priests only received 1% of the holy tithe. (3) God
never commanded Gentiles to observe the Old Covenant law and tithing. (4) Early
Jewish-Christians still tithed to their temple priests 30 years after Calvary
in Acts 21:20-21. (5) The post-Calvary church taught sacrificial offerings.
(6) The Roman Catholic church did not attempt to teach tithing until the 6th
century and failed. (7) Baptists originally opposed hireling pastors and failed
to establish tithing in 1895.
Concerning tithing, my conclusions about Melchizedek do not depend upon how
one understands it. Read everything I wrote about Genesis 14 and Hebrews 7. My
conclusions about Melchizedek and Most High God were gleaned from Wycliffe
Bible Commentary (p18), New Bible Commentary (p18), Matthew Henry Commentary
(p18), Unger’s Bible Dictionary (p19), Fausset’s Bible Dictionary (P20), International
Standard Bible Encyclopedia (p21), Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance (p22) and
many others.
