Russell Kelly and his wife, Donna,,  moved to Elizabethton, Tennessee from Georgia in June 2020. He is a Baptist theologian and author. They voted Republican.

At least for the presidential election, Georgia is definitely trending Democratic blue during the last two elections.

                     Republicans                       Democrats

2020 L          49.3%          2,461,854    49.5 w              2,473,633

2016 W         51.3%          2,068,623    45.5 L              1,857,300

                                             393,231                             616,333

1. At least for the presidential election, Democrats have gained control of the most-populated counties and 9 of the top 12.

2. Statewide, Democrats added 616,333 new voters since 2016 while Republicans added 393,231. Although Democrats gained 223,102 voters since 2016, Biden only beat President Trump by 11,779 votes in Georgia.

3. The 4 most populated Georgia counties (Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb and Cobb) added 307,559 Democratic voters and only 71,607 Republican voters. The election was won there. The next eight most populated Georgia counties added 130,709 Democratic voters and 65,669 Republican voters (7, 8 and 12).

4. Only 29 of 159 Georgia counties voted for Biden.

5. Four counties gained less than 20 Democrat voters and two had LESS Democratic votes since 2016 (Berrien 132 less and Stewart 38 less).

6. Percentages deceive. The Republican percentage of the total decreased in 71 of 159 counties. Therefore, the Democrat percentage of the total vote DECREASED in 86 of 159 counties. Two had no change.

7. Georgia’s population in 2020 was 10,736,100 and over half of those reside in its top 12 populated counties. Percentages deceive here because the vast majority of votes in Georgia are found in a few large counties. Large cities have determined the presidential election in Georgia and in the United Sates.
